SHORT HISTORY OF OUR SCHOOL

Queen of the Apostles’ Girls Secondary Technical School Okigwe is among the schools conceptualized by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. Anthony Ekezie Ilonu of blessed memory, in the year 1993. It is presently being watered in continuum by his successor, His Lordship Most Rev. Dr. S. A.  Amatu.

This noble institution was opened officially on the 14th day of September 1993 with thirty-Six pioneer Students. Since inception, the school has been managed by the Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy Sisters, whose vision is to nurture, model and train the young girls to attain high academic and moral standard irrespective of their background and denominations. To prove this, the school since inception has kept an excellent track of record by maintaining an enviable standard in WAEC, NECO and JSSCE examinations. This is why they regularly gain admission into institutions of higher learning all over the federation. It is worthy to note that our old Girls have been among the top-ranking students of higher institutions nationwide. Since its birth, Queen of Apostles’ Girls Secondary Technical School Okigwe has been headed by various hardworking principals in the persons of Rev Sr. Chikaebere Nwankwo (founder principal), a wonderful and hard-working Sister who came with the aim of making the school look like a mission school; Rev. Sr. Blaise Ukaegbu who in turn did her best and sustained the institution for six (6) years (2001-2006) and handed the batten of leadership to the incumbent Principal in the person of Rev. Sr. Alma Igwe who has worked tirelessly to bring the school to the its present state.

The school by the effort of the new principal has achieved so much, including the Construction of culvert, drainage, erosion control, reconstruction of refectory building; renovation of laboratory, renovation of the Obsolete library building, purchase of a new school bus, construction of ten water system toilet, renovation of ten students bathrooms, renovation of the students dormitories, reconstruction of the Obsolete kitchen, reconstruction of the school gate, purchase of a brand new generator set (Lister), purchase of a stand-by generator to mention but a few. The climax of our achievements is that today Rev. Sr. Alma Igwe could boast of overcoming the impossible task of sinking a new borehole that can provide good drinking water to replace the inefficient old one. More so, she has constructed two new storey buildings to accommodate the following: – Staff room and auditorium. We have also embarked on the construction of another storey building that is presently at decking stage to serve as a pure modern students’ hostel.

Be informed that Queen of the Apostles Girls Sec. Tech. School Okigwe is a “Model” as far as other schools are concerned in the environment. We beckon upon our beloved parents irrespective of their religious affiliations to partner with us by sending their daughters to this glorious institution of learning. Remember the adage that says, “When you train a girl you have trained a nation”.

Finally, the school remains ever grateful and in indebted to His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. S.A. Amatu for his fatherly visitation, support and advice
